Enugu, Oct. 27, 2025 (NAN) The Kunie Foundation has announced that its short film anthology, `Echoes From the Shadows’, has been selected for screening at the 2025 Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF).
The film, produced in collaboration with Afrochives Studio, tells deeply human stories from Iva Valley in Enugu State, a community often left on the margins of national conversations.
The organisation said that the film captures the life experiences of women, children and youths confronting poverty, gender inequality and social exclusion, while showcasing their resilience and hope for change.
According to the Kunie Foundation, the anthology aligns with its mission to promote social inclusion, gender equity and socio-economic transformation through data-driven advocacy and partnerships for action.
The three short films in the series explore issues such as masculinity and gender-based violence, the impact of poverty on personal aspirations and how fragile health systems and exclusion reinforce inequality.
Speaking on the film’s selection, the Executive Director of the Kunie Foundation, Ms Damilola Oyewusi, described the recognition as a reminder that stories can be powerful policy tools.
Oyewusi expressed the Foundation’s optimism that the film would spark new conversations and inspire real action around poverty, gender and social inclusion in Nigeria.
“Storytelling helps us confront uncomfortable truths with empathy.
“Echoes From the Shadows gives voice to people who are too often spoken about, but rarely listened to.
“Platforms like AIFF help move these experiences from the margins to the centre of development conversations,” she hinted.
The Abuja International Film Festival, now in its 22nd edition, remains one of Africa’s leading platforms for showcasing films that inspire dialogue and drive social impact.
The selection of Echoes From the Shadows underscores Kunie Foundation’s growing commitment to using creative media as a tool for advocacy, empathy and transformation.
