The incumbent governor of Edo State, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, formerly of the All Progresives Congress (APC) finally defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday.
The opposition announced the defection and welcomed its newest high-profile member with a message on its Twitter account, tweeting: “Breaking News! The governor of Edo State, H. E. @GovernorObaseki has defected to our great Party, the @OfficialPDPNig. The declaration was made this afternoon at the state Secretariat of our party in Benin city, Edo State. Power to the people”.
The governor had been in the news lately, after his former party, APC disqualified his over claims he had tendered questionable documents during the screening last week.
Since then, there have been strong indications that Obaseki would hop into the PDP’s ship, especially with a visit to the Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, who assured of the party’s support and open arms in the event that he decides to jump ship.
