The Edo government and German organisation –Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) — are set for seamless Gender Policy implementation in the state, official has said.
The two partners announced this on Wednesday during a capacity building workshop for Edo Gender Technical Working Group (TWG) ahead of the implementation.
The workshop is being carried out by the Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE II) programme implemented by GIZ in Edo.
State Coordinator, Gender and inclusion, SKYE, GIZ Benin Helen Igboka, said that the Gender Policy development process began in 2022 and was inaugurated in 2023.
Igboka noted that following the successful validation phase of the policy development process, the policy “is set for comprehensive implementation across the state”.
She noted that the workshop was a critical milestone towards empowering relevant stakeholders.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants were taken through sessions such as gender transformative approaches, policy implementation framework, monitoring and evaluation strategies, among others.
Igboka stated that the workshop underscored the GIZ commitment to fostering a gender sensitive environment in the state.
“The workshop is expected to culminate in strengthening capacities among TWG members to support the ongoing gender mainstreaming efforts and facilitate community engagement.
“By the fourth quarter of 2024, the gender TWG anticipates delivering of its inaugural annual report, showcasing progress towards a more inclusive and gender responsive Edo,” she said.
The State Commissioner, Ministry of Gender and Social Development, Mrs Christabel Omoh, said that the workshop would ensure measurable progress and impactful outcomes.(NAN)
