Abdulhammed gave the advice in his Eid-el-Fitr sermon shortly after the two-rakat prayer marking the end of the Ramadan fast, on Friday, at Eid Ground, off Technical College, Ifewara Road, Ilode, Ile-Ife.
He urged adherents to sustain the essence of Ramadan, which are sacrifice, discipline and compassion, beyond the fasting period.
The Chief Imam admonished Muslims to live in peace with adherents of other religions, stressing that Islam promotes tolerance, humility and mutual respect.
“Muslims should shun any act capable of causing disunity or tension in the society. We must continue to uphold the values of peaceful coexistence as taught by the Prophet,” he stated.
Abdulhammed charged Nigerians to uphold whichever religion they practice without threatening others and expect their rewards here on earth and on judgement day.
The cleric also advised parents to instil moral values in their children, noting that a morally upright society would reduce crime and social vices.
The Chief Imam called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and progress of the country. (NAN)
