Eid el-Fitr: Etsu Nupe preaches unity, peace, lasting Ramadan virtues

Bida (Niger), Mar. 20, 2026 (NAN) Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger Council of Traditional Rulers, has called for sustained national peace, unity, and lasting Ramadan spirit.

The Traditional Ruler urged for positive development as Muslims end Ramadan fast Thursday after a 30-day of fasting.

He felicitated with the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan and warmly congratulated them on the occasion of Eid el-Fitr celebration.

Abubakar made the appeal while addressing his community shortly after the two Raka’at prayers at the Eid praying ground in Bida, Bida Local Government Area of Niger, on Friday.

The revered traditional ruler expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting the faithful the strength, patience, and spiritual fulfillment to observe the Ramadan fast.

The first-class traditional ruler described the period as one of deep reflection, sacrifice, and renewed devotion to God.

He therefore admonished Muslims to continue to uphold the virtues imbibed during the holy month, including piety, love, charity, discipline, and compassion, stressing that such values were essential for personal growth and societal harmony.

Besides, the Etsu Nupe urged the Muslim faithful to refrain from returning to bad acts and behaviors they abstained from during Ramadan.

The royal father further appealed to Nigerians to intensify prayers for peace, unity, and progress of the country, noting that peace remains a veritable foundation for any meaningful development.

He also enjoined Nigerians to remain law-abiding, united, and shun all forms of violence and actions capable of disrupting the peaceful coexistence of the society.

The traditional ruler used the occasion to appeal to well-to-do Muslims in the society to continue to support the less privileged to alleviate their suffering.

“I want to use this occasion to call on wealthy individuals to continue to support the poor so as to alleviate their sufferings in society,” Abubakar appealed.

The Etsu Nupe also urged wealthy individuals in the country to assist the less privileged to enable all and sundry celebrate the Eid el-Fitr joyfully.

“God has endowed wealth on people not for themselves and their immediate family alone, but for the benefit of the entire society.

“The present socio-economic predicament that we are now facing requires such assistance from well-to-do individuals in the country,” he said.

The traditional ruler further enjoined Muslims to have the fear of God in all their activities, saying: “we all have to give account of our deeds one day to our creator”.

He advised Muslims to continue to pray for their leaders to overcome the current challenges bedevelling Nigeria.

On education, he charged the people of his domain to send their children to school to acquire both western and Islamic knowledge.

Highlighting the importance of family values, the Etsu Nupe advised parents to take full responsibility for the proper upbringing of their children, emphasizing the need to instill moral discipline and sound values that would guide them to become responsible members of the society.

While wishing Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid el-Fitr celebration, Abubakar prayed for Allah’s continued blessings, guidance, and prosperity for the people and the nation at large.

The Chief Imam of Nupe, Sheikh Adamu Liman-Yakatun, in his sermon, advised the Muslim faithful to sustain the lessons of Ramadan.

He called on those who prayed and fasted for the 30 days to internalise and practice the social and moral objectives of the holy month of Ramadan. (NAN)
