The Police Command in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it had strengthened deployment in the territory ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT,  SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Adeh said the deployment was to ensure a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free celebration for residents and visitors.
She said the command had also, in collaboration with other security agencies, activated a coordinated joint security architecture under the code name “Operation Sweep FCT.”
Adeh listed those involved in the collaboration as the Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and other relevant stakeholders,
Adeh said the operation had been divided into strategic sectors across the FCT, with personnel carrying out continuous patrols and coordinated security operations.
She said the idea was to deter, prevent, and respond swiftly to any form of criminal activity.
“As part of the command’s preventive security strategy, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have also been directed to conduct proactive sweeps.
“The sweeps are to be conducted at  designated worship centres, recreational facilities, and other venues expected to host large gatherings.
“Sustained intelligence-led operations and targeted raids on identified flashpoints and locations associated with illicit drug activities have equally been ordered,” she said.
Adeh said the order was given with clear directives that all operations must be conducted professionally and within established legal standards.
She said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Mr Ahmed Sanusi, held a strategic Zoom meeting with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Divisional Crime Officers (DCOs) to strengthen security ahead of the celebration.
Adeh said the CP had urged the DPOs and DCOs to remain proactive, vigilant, and professional in the discharge of their duties before, during, and after the celebrations.
“He emphasized the need for heightened visibility policing, prompt response to distress situations, and stronger engagement with communities.
“The CP further warned that no form of unprofessional conduct would be tolerated.
“He directed all officers to remain disciplined, properly dressed, courteous, and respectful in all interactions with members of the public,” she said.
Adeh pledged the commitment of the command to the protection of lives and property and urged the public to remain law-abiding and security conscious.
She enjoined the public to cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious persons or activities through the Command’s emergency numbers on 08032003913, 07057337653. (NAN)
