Ejike Asiegbu Becomes CISLAC Ambassador

Ejike AsiegbuThe Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has appointed Nollywood star, Ejike Asiegbu, Champion for the National Campaign of the State of the Union (SOTU), Project in Nigeria.

In a letter signed by Auwal Ibrahim Musa and dated May 5, the actor’s appointment as Ambassador of the body is part of moves aimed at mobilising “citizens’ participation in the entire governance process in pushing for accountability in governance.”

The (CISLAC) in its commitment towards building a Nigeria where citizens’ are at the heart of governance and ensuring participation and increased inclusivity in the development, implementation and monitoring of laws and policies has in the last three years been implementing the (SOTU) project. It is a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working across various government thematic areas on the African continent that advocate for the ratification, domestication and implementation of key African Union (AU) conventions and legal instruments. These AU Instruments range from governance, political, social and economic rights, to peace and security and development. Fourteen of them–10 legal instruments, four policy standards–if implemented have tremendous promise for the lives of millions of Africans, Musa said.

Asiegbu as the Champion for the Campaign in Nigeria “My African Union, My Future” (Be The Voice for Africa) is expected to attend the May 14 where he will be officially unveiled in Abuja.

The official launch of the campaign, Musa said, is “expected to be a groundbreaking event that will signal the commencement of the rebirth of the AU in Nigeria and sensitisation of Nigerian citizens on not just the kinship as a member of the AU but also the mobilisation of citizens’ participation in the entire governance process in pushing for accountability in governance.”

The Nollywood actor in a statement on Thursday said he was delighted to serve in the capacity of Champion for the National Campaign of the State of the Union (SOTU) Project in Nigeria which according to him is his own means of contributing to nation building as well as ensuring peace reigns in the Africa continent. The former Students Union president of the University of Port Harcourt and member of so many CSOs and pro-democracy groups promised to be a good ambassador in the duration he would serve.
