Electrician jailed 3 years for housebreaking, theft

Jos, Jan. 22, 2026 (NAN) A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old electrician, Moses Ibrahim, to three years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and stealing electrical wires valued at N1.5 million.

The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, convicted Ibrahim after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of mischief, housebreaking and theft.

Pati sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment each for housebreaking, mischief and stealing, with an option of fines of N20,000, N30,000 and N20,000 respectively.

She also ordered the convict to pay N1.5 million as compensation to the complainant.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the the complainant, Mr Kayode Joseph, reported the case on Dec. 14, 2025, at the Nasarawa Gwong Police Station.

Gokwat said the convict broke into the complainant’s house, destroyed the Plaster of Paris (POP) ceiling and removed all electrical wires and cables valued at N1.5 million.

He said the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
