LAGOS, NIGERIA - SEPTEMBER 12: Muslims perform the Eid Al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) prayer at Center mosque in Lagos, Nigeria on September 12, 2016. Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid Al-Adha, to commemorate the holy Prophet Ibrahim’s (Prophet Abraham) readiness to sacrifice his son as a sign of his obedience to God, during which they sacrifice permissible animals, generally goats, sheep, and cows. Malam Yahya Alyolawi, Chief Imam of Garki Area 10, Jumaat Mosque in Abuja, has urged Muslim faithful to always encourage good deeds and prevent evil doing.

Alyolawi gave the admonition in his sermon at the mosque on Friday.

He said that the act of commanding what was right and forbidding what was wrong was one of the most important teachings of Holy Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him.

He added that adhering to the principle of promoting good deeds and discouraging evil doing was of immense benefit to the society.

“If this principle is duly adhered to in any community, all other teachings of Islam will automatically fall in place, but if it is ignored, other vital Islamic teachings will gradually be eroded.

“Commanding what is right and forbidding what is wrong provides an instrument for the Muslim Ummah to fight against immoral, social, economic and spiritual ills,’’ he said.

The cleric said that when evil doers populated a society without being checkmated, every member will eventually suffer the consequences of their evil actions

“Prophet Muhammed is reported to have said that if one of you sees something wrong,  he should change it with his hand, if possible.

“If he can’t, he should his tongue; if he can’t, then use his heart. This is the weakest of iman (belief),’’he said. (NAN)
