The Igbo National Council (INC), a socio-political organization of new generation Igbo leaders’ of thoughts have dissociated itself from what it described as the purported endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan as a consensus candidate of Ndigbo in the forthcoming 2015 general election by ex-President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Igariwe and members of his executives.
In a press statement signed by Comrade Chilos Godsent, it’s National President and Comrade Zulu Ofoelue, the National Secretary, the group said that the development is quite disturbing, an embarrassment to the sensitivity of the Igbo Race and an insult to the collective existence of the people.
The statement further stated that Chief Gary Igariwe has ceased to be the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo as his tenure ended on he 12th of January 2015, and recognised
Chief Ralph Obioha’s Ohaneze Ndigbo Caretaker Committee which was constituted by Ohaneze Ndigbo Elder’s Council led by Chief Mbazurike Amaechi on the 15th of January 2015.
It further stated: “Chief Gary Igariwey and members of his executives should desist from embarrassing Ndigbo through their desperate political maneuverings and greed. Ndigbo have never at any time discussed, agreed or accepted any consensus candidate for the Igbo Race. The so-called endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan for 2015 Presidential election by Chief Igariwey is an insult to the sensitivity of Ndigbo whose sons and daughters are also currently vying for Presidency of Nigeria in the same election and does not reflect the current feelings among Ndigbo”, it maintained.
INC further urged Ndigbo and all well meaning Nigerians to ignore Igariwey and his cohorts, as they do not represent Ndigbo and are not for the interest of Ndigbo.
