National Association of Seadogs, on Friday, urged Kwara Government to ensure protection of media practitioners in the state and provide a conducive environment for them to operate.

Coordinator of the association in Kwara and Kogi, Mr Gbolahan Balogun, stated this in a statement issued in Ilorin to commemorate the 2024 World Press Freedom Day.

Balogun also called on the state government to uphold its commitment to democratic principles.

”We stand in solidarity with journalists in Kwara on this day, amidst the backdrop of increasing suppression and intimidation faced by media practitioners.

”Journalists must be allowed to operate without fear of reprisal or persecution.

”Any attempt to infringe on their rights must be met with swift and decisive action by the government, the judiciary and the police.

”Government should also grant journalists unhindered access to information at all times,” he said.

Balogun also stressed the need for government to ensure free and independent media. (NAN)
