Family Worship FC (FWC FC) secured a hard-fought victory over Assess FC on Thursday, winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 0-0 in regular time.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the win propels FWC FC to the semi-finals of the 2025 FCT President Federation Cup in Abuja.
The match, played at the Area 3 football pitch, saw both teams create scoring opportunities, but neither could find the back of the net.
FWC FC dominated possession and created several chances, but Assess FC’s defense held firm throughout the game.
Both teams deployed various tactics and skills, but their efforts proved futile as the elusive goal never came.
FWC FC’s inability to capitalize on their chances forced the match into penalties, where they ultimately triumphed 4-2.
Speaking after the match, Assess FC captain Idowu Oladayo expressed frustration with the officiating, claiming the referees were biased against his team.
In spite of the loss, he praised his teammates for their strong performance and resilience during the game.
On his part, FWC FC head coach Bunmi Haruna described the match as exciting and competitive.
He commended his players’ perseverance and tactical execution, which led to their victory in the penalty shootout.
He said, “Our team reached the semi-finals of the 2024 Federation Cup but lost 1-0 to defending champions EFCC FC.
“We hope to qualify for the National Federation Cup, and I am determined to lead my team to victory.
“This win sets up a semi-final clash for us, joining EFCC FC and Galadima FC, who secured their places earlier. The match is scheduled for Feb. 17.”
