Enugu FA to begin grassroots football talent hunt- Chairman

The Enugu State Football Association (FA), says it has taken football talent hunting to the nooks and crannies of the state.

Chairman of the association, Tony Ugwu who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu, said the association would rotate the state league among the three senatorial zones

Ugwu spoke on the backdrop of the successful conclusion of the 2023/24 football season.

“We are trying to move down to the grassroots and that’s our focal point and every journey of a thousand miles will start with a step.

“In the next football final we are going to Oji River and the next one to Nkanu and Awgu and it will continue like that, ” he said..

The chairman said that the association had other football tournaments coming up which would be spread across the three senatorial zones.

“We need to take football to outside Enugu metropolis and later bring it back to the metropolis, and these are the aims and objectives of the Enugu State FA, ” Ugwu said.

He said that the FA was working with a philanthropist, who has indicated interest to develop football in the state.

The chairman appreciated Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu state for his interest in sports, particularly football in the state.

“I need to thank the governor who has done marvelously well in terms of sports development, especially football in the state, ” he said. (NAN)
