Estate agent, 43, docked over alleged N320,000 fraud

Ibadan, March 18, 2026 (NAN)A 43-year-old estate agent, Oyetunji Abideen, has been arraigned before a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding an unsuspecting customer of N330,000 in house rent.

 

Abideen pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence, and stealing instituted against him.

 

Consequently, the court’s President, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

 

Akintayo added that the sureties must each provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State Government, as well as a valid means of identification.

 

She thereafter adjourned the case until April 29 for hearing.

 

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on March 9 at about 11:00 a.m. in the Mapo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

Ayeni added that Abideen, along with others now at large, allegedly obtained the sum of N320,000 from one Ajoke Awe under the pretext of securing a two-bedroom apartment for her.

 

He stated that the offences contravene Sections 422, 419, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State..
