Dr. Osahon Enabulele, former president of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), on Friday said empowering Nigerian citizens is the catalyst to the nation’s growth and development.
Enabulele, founder of the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation, made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.
The philanthropist said that the key to unlocking Nigeria’s potential lies in empowering its citizens by all means at this crucial time of our democratic journey.
He painted a vivid picture of Nigeria’s current state, where he said citizens were struggling to survive amidst the challenges of life.
Enabulele added that he remains optimistic, believing that the government’s conscious commitment to progressive reforms that empower the citizens could reverse the nation’s challenges.
Enabulele disclosed that his foundation aims to empower citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, through initiatives that promote leadership excellence, good governance, and human capital development, among others.
He identified several key areas that are critical to empowering citizens, including developing effective leaders who can drive positive change, promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in governance.
“Again, government can implement targeted programs to foster community growth and development, equipping young people with the skills and resources needed to achieve their dreams, among others.
“By focusing on these areas, I believe Nigeria can unlock its full potential and create a brighter future for its citizens.
“This is because empowering citizens is not just a moral imperative; it’s a strategic necessity.
“When citizens are empowered, they become the driving force behind a nation’s transformation,” he stated. (NAN)
