The Catholic faithful on Easter Monday gathered at different locations to feast after the Lenten season that culminated in the Easter celebration.

The feasts afforded parishioners the time to also exchange pleasantries and banter, as well as foster brotherly love, away from the usual solemn religious tradition that the church is known for.

The outdoor event featured different activities at various locations, including novelty matches,  games, tug-of-war competitions, and comic concerts, among others.

It was also an avenue of networking where parishioners and clerics related as one family while the cases of the needy were discussed with individuals and groups that could be of help.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Catholics celebrate Galilee Day on Easter Monday. relating it to when Jesus told Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James, that the apostles should meet him in Galilee.

At the Saints Peter and Paul Church, Tedi Ojo Lagos, faithful gathered in large numbers to commemorate the feast with fanfare.

As early as noon, different associations in the church, putting on attire to differentiate one from the other, engaged in different competitions that spiced up the feast to the admiration of all.

In his address at the event, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Thompson, urged people to prioritise their health.

Thompson reiterated the saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”.

“As humans, we should do the most we can and leave the rest to God to accomplish for us, backing our deeds with prayers.

“Here we are as one joyful family; such a bond should be our tradition in our daily interactions with people.

“Remember that the God you see is that person by your side, for He made man in His image and likeness,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the coordinator, Chief Patrick Uzo, said that it was the church tradition every Easter Monday to renew parishioners’ bonds.

Uzo, who stressed the importance of relaxation, noted that after the Lenten season of self-denial, people needed recreation to advance.

He said that, apart from the faithful, people of other faiths and denominations were offered food and other items in the spirit of brotherly love that the church preached always. (NAN)
