A farmer, Francis Vincent, 40, on Thursday, appeared before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of four bags of fertilizer.
The defendant, a resident of Trikania in Kaduna, is charged with conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 12, at Kakuri in Kaduna.
Leo said that the defendant, and one other at large, burgled the shop of Moses Baba and stole four bags of fertilizer, the value yet to be ascertained.
He said that the defendant was caught when loading the stolen fertilizer in a truck while his accomplice escaped with two bags of fertilizer.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
He said that the surety must present evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
Emmanuel adjourned the case until Aug. 24, for hearing. (NAN).
