The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa, said its Agro Rangers unit has reduced Farmers/Herders conflicts in the state by 90 per cent.

The Command’s  Information officer, DSC Nyako Baba, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) on Friday in Yola.

Baba said the achievement was as result of collective measures taken by the Command with other major stakeholders.

He said when the unit was established between 2016 and 2017, the Command invited the major stakeholders in the project that include farmers and herders for a meeting.

“During the stakeholders meeting we identified conflict flash point areas which include farmlands, local and international Cattle Roots and Grazing Reserves in the state.

“The Command advised farmers to stay clear from those gazetted grazing and cattle root  locations.

“We also warned the herders to distance their grazing activity faraway from farmlands  and they all agreed and abided,” he said.

He noted that the development was key for attaining about 90 per cent reduction of conflicts between the two major stakeholders across the state.

Baba explained that despite the gigantic achievement recorded, there were still pockets of  minor conflict between the duo.

He said the Command has recorded 16 incidents of cattle rustling, and has rescued over a hundred cows, and made several arrests and prosecutions.

He said the Agro Rangers in the state have diversified into curtailing fake Agro chemicals circulating in the state.

“Following several undercover  security reports,  we discovered that there are a lot of fake Agro Chemicals in our markets across the state.

“We discovered some of the chemicals were  banned by the Federal Government because of their danger to human health and the environment”, Baba said (NAN).
