The Lagos State Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria, Badagry Chapter, has described farming, especially animal husbandry as reliable means of income generation after retirement from service.
The Chairman of the association, Mr Lukman Adegbenro, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Badagry.
Adegbenro said that poultry farming remained a verifiable tool to combat the challenges associated with retirement from service.
He said that poultry farming could help retirees overcome idleness, loneliness and financial challenges often associated with life after active service.
“Many retired people engage in farming or other agricultural activities to remain active and earn a living after retirement.
“Farming offers several benefits, including recreation, food production and income generation.
“With the right livestock housing, regular sanitation, proper feeding and close monitoring, farmers can run a successful enterprise,” the chairman said.
He said that individuals without farming skills but with sufficient financial resources could still invest in agriculture, by employing competent farm managers and workers.
Adegbenro, however, advised intending poultry farmers to start on a small scale, acquire the necessary skills and expand gradually, to minimize losses from disorder such as Newcastle disease.
He called on poultry farmers, stakeholders and members of the public to attend the 2026 PANLAG Summit scheduled for July 30 at Matinos Hotel, Alausa, Lagos.
Adegbenro said that the summit would feature experts and technicians who would educate participants on best agricultural practices, while livestock products and innovations to improve production would also be showcased. (NAN).
