Abuja, February 17, 2024 – The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched an Electronic Verification Management System for military retirees, aiming to streamline the process for accessing pensions, gratuities, and other benefits.

The system, unveiled by the Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, Air Vice Marshal Paul Irumheson, will replace the traditional physical verification process, which retirees have long found cumbersome, particularly due to their advanced age.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Irumheson addressed the challenges faced by retirees in the previous physical verification exercises, including transportation costs, security risks, and the burden on those residing abroad.

“To ease the process of future verification exercises and sustain the integrity of the pension database, the Military Pensions Board has developed a system for the electronic verification of pensioners,” stated Irumheson.

He explained that the Electronic Verification Management System is a web-based platform designed to allow pensioners to complete verification from their preferred locations using mobile devices. The initiative aims to enhance convenience and accessibility for retirees.

The system’s testing phase is set to begin on February 19, with over 11,000 retirees participating across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. During this period, 300 pensioners from each state will pilot the application, providing feedback to further refine the system.

“Pensioners will be required to download the Military Pensions Board Electronic Verification Application from the Google Play Store (for Android Phone users) or the App Store (for iPhone users),” Irumheson explained.

He emphasised the importance of data security and cautioned pensioners against sharing sensitive information, such as ATM details, reaffirming the board’s commitment to ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of retirees’ personal information.
