Abuja, Aug. 20, 2025 (NAN) The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has pledged to strengthen its partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), to enhance emergency preparedness and management in the FCT.
The Acting Director-General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, made this known when he received the new Sector Commander of the FRSC, FCT Sector Command Corps Commander, Felix Theman and his management team on a visit.
According to Abdulrahman, the mandate of the FRSC which centres on maintaining safety on the highways is strongly connected to that of FEMD, as a state emergency management agency whose mandate is also backed by law.
“Rescue, prevention and mitigation of disaster is a field for numerous stakeholders, principal of which are road safety and FEMD.
“It is easy to see that we are sisters and we must synergise and be seen to work together.
“Several times our personnel have met in the field while carrying out rescue operations.
“Where it is necessary, even if it is not a road crash we want to be able to call on you for assistance,”he said.
Earlier, Theman said that the visit was to ensure a continuation of the existing cordial relationship between both agencies.
Theman called on all stakeholders to work to provide succor to residents of the FCT.
He said the collaboration was necessary especially due to some challenges.
“We are aware of the enormous responsibility on our shoulders with four million residents, indiscipline in adjourning states, global warming and climate change especially in less developed countries exacerbated by poverty,’’ he said.
He assured that the FRSC would provide FEMD with the necessary support for the betterment of the FCT.(NAN)
