Alpha Designs Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas service provider, has unveiled some digital applications to curb gas explosions and promote safety in the energy sector.
Mr Shittu Oladapo, the firm’s Lead, Asset Integrity and Quality Assurance, unveiled the App at the presentation of the company’s Research and Development projects in Abuja on Friday.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the company’s Cylindron App was developed to implement existing safety standards.
He said that the safety standards for gas cylinders had often been ignored, leading to fatal explosions across the country.
“Over the years, we’ve recorded several incidents of gas explosions which have occurred due to the usage of damaged or substandard gas cylinders,” he said.
Oladapo also said that the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) was collaborating with the firm on the app project.
He said that the app may become operational between the first and second quarter of 2027.
“This Cylindron also talks about digital security guards that ensure safety is encoded under CNG sectors.
”The system ensures that the only plant or asset that has 100 per cent compliance will be allowed to operate,” he said.
Also speaking, the company’s Project Coordinator, Miss Victory Enna, said that the app had already been patented under the Patents and Designs Act.
She said that the innovation would capture marked identities on cylinders and generate QR codes showing inspection status, last inspection date, due date as well as other information.
Enna added that inspections would be categorized as ’pass, repair or reject’ with failed cylinders taken out of service.
The app, she added had been configured to be role-based for users, inspectors, regulators and administrators.(NAN)
