Dutse, Nov. 3, 2025 (NAN) The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Burninkudu, says it has signed a health promotion agreement with the Police Health Maintenance Limited (HMO).

The two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to promote health and welfare of the police personnel.

Dr Yusuf Kalli-Garzali, Managing Director, HMO, said this on Monday in a statement by Auwalu Yusuf-Birninkudu, Head of Information/Public Relations Unit of the hospital.

Kalli-Garzali said the agreement would facilitate treatment of police personnel who suffer trauma and gunshots in the line of duty.

“We have so far covered 12 hospitals and we are determined to visit all Federal Government owned hospitals to implement the programme.

“We will provide the needed fund to the hospitals, after which we will closely monitor its implementation through our desk officers,” Garzali said in the statement.

He said the programme is a special intervention initiated by the office of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun in September 2025.

Garzali said the initiative would further protect and promote the health of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force across the country.

He said the police leadership had introduced viable reform programmes to improve the lives of the police personnel for effective and efficient service delivery.

Garzali listed some of the programmes to include the enhancement of community policing, by reinforcing community engagement models aimed at improving intelligence gathering and restoring public trust.

“The IGP implemented digital policing initiatives through the introduction of technology based crime tracking systems and expanded the use of body-worn cameras for officers in urban deployments.

“He also pushed for better housing for junior officers and improved training at the police training institutions as well as increased funding for police medical services.” he said.

The manager said discipline and accountability has significantly improved sequel to the ongoing reforms in the service.

“The IGP fully supported  the Police Institute Establishment Bill and Trust Fund Amendment, to ensure sustainable funding and improved officers’ welfare,” he said.

He enjoined the police personnel to  enroll in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), considering its lofty advantages to their health and that of their families.

“This special intervention does not exclude police officers from enjoying or accessing the services rendered under the NHIS,” he said.

Dr Halima Ibrahim, Head of Clinical Services in the centre, commended the gesture.

Ibrahim described the police as a veritable institution that protects lives and property of the citizens, hence the need for their welfare and health to be safeguarded and protected.

She reiterated commitment of the hospital’s management to the full implementation of the MoU, to ensure efficiency, accountability and positive impact on police personnel.

“The hospital has adequate qualified staff and the required expertise to handle medical issues and emergencies.” (NAN)
