Gov. Oborevwori counsels corp members on self employment, self reliance
Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to be committed to the orientation programme to assist them toward actualising self-employment after the service year.
This will enable them to become self-reliant, he said.
Oborevwori said this on Friday at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Batch B, Stream 11 set at the Orientation Camp, Issele-uku.
Oborevwori was represented by Mr Harry Trakiriowei, Commissioner for Youth Development, Delta.
According to him, the service year is dependent on the foundation laid during the orientation exercise.
“The knowledge you will acquire in this camp will be a catalyst for your purposeful future endeavours. Make this call a mark of honour and put in your utmost in all you do.
“Devote more time to self-evaluation and development. As potential leaders, you are today called upon to serve in an environment, which may be totally new to you.
“This is an orientation camp, which is regimented. I, therefore, enjoin you to be painstakingly diligent and humble in all that you are assigned to do,” he said.
He urged corps members to justify government and the people’s high expectations of them in their one year period of service to the fatherland.
“Your call to national service is a call to sacrifice, dedication, perseverance and humility.
“The time has come for us as responsible citizens, to come to terms with the prevailing realities in our national life.
“Without doubt, the current situation in our country, calls for unity, commitment and hard work to help its development,” he said.
Mr Olusegun Alao, Delta Coordinator of NYSC, urged the state government to expedite action in fulfilling its promise of a new 150KVA diesel generator.
He also urged the state government to help with the camp’s perimeter fence to help safeguard the huge government investments in the camp.
He said that a total of 1,546 prospective corps members were registered for the 2024 Batch B Stream 11 set.(NAN
