Governing Council sacks UNILAG VC

The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) says it has sacked its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olawatoyin Ogundipe.

A press release from the school’s Registrar and Secretary to the Council Oladejo Azeez, Esq. on Wednesday said the sack was announced at a meeting of the Governing Council of the UNILAG held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja.

“The decision was based on Council’s investigation of serious accusations of wrong-doing, gross misconduct, financial recklessness and abuse of office against Professor Oluwatayo Ogundipe, FAS,” the statement said.

While seven members voted for the removal of Ogundipe, four voted for him to be retained, while one voted for him to be suspended.

The meeting was chaired by the UNILAG Pro-Chancellor and chairman of its Governing Council, Dr. Wale Babalakin.
