Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has approved the retirement of Justice Thomas Naron of the state High Court.
The retirement took effect from Monday (yesterday).
This came more than a week after the National Judicial Council’s axe fell on the embattled judge over his handling of the controversial Osun State governorship election petition.
The NJC was said to have found out that there were regular voice calls and exchange of text messages between the judge and one of the counsel during the proceedings of the election petititon tribunal.
In a statement on Monday by the Director of Press Affairs to Jang, Mr. James Mannock, the governor said the action followed the NJC’s recommendation, which investigated a petition against Naron as member of the panel of the Election Petitions Tribunal in Osun and subsequently recommended his retirement.
Mannock said, “Jang in response to the letter of the NJC by the Chief Justice of Nigeria Justic Aloma Mukhtar approved the retirement of Naron with effect from March 4, 2013.”
