Hong (Adamawa), March 27, 2026 (NAN) Rev. Daniel Mbaya, President of Ekklesiyar ‘Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN), has stated that the Church will not align with any political party as the 2027 electioneering season approaches.

He made the declaration at the 79th General Church Council (GCC) conference, tagged Majalisa 2026, on Friday in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three-day conference, running from March 25 to 27, carried the theme “Peace Church in Prevailing Storm,” drawn from Matthew 5:9.

Mbaya said the Church would maintain neutrality, supporting only credible candidates.

“As a Church, we will not align with any political party; we shall support only credible candidates, taking into cognisance fair representation,” he said.

However, he urged members to actively participate in politics and aspire for leadership positions at all levels.

He noted that the current political environment required wisdom and peaceful engagement.

The EYN President encouraged members to register with political parties of their choice, emphasising that simply having a voter’s card was not enough.

“If we are uncomfortable with political developments and policies in the country, then we must get involved,” he said.

Mbaya advised members to seek elective positions at ward, local government, state, and national levels through active participation in party politics.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for partnering with the United States to address insecurity in the country, hailing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges.

Further, he lauded Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri for developmental strides and inclusive governance in Adamawa, highlighting youth empowerment, education reform, civil service sanitisation, and community development initiatives.

Mbaya also hailed the creation of emirates and chiefdoms, as well as the appointment of credible traditional rulers, adding those steps strengthened local governance and social cohesion.(NAN)
