The Nigeria Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI), has called for collaboration of the Osun government on empowering women farmers in the state to enhance food production.
Mrs Omolara Svensson, National Coordinator of NWAPDI made the call when a delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Osun state government on Thursday in Abuja.
Svensson, who identified the state as rich in agricultural produce such as palm oil, Cassava, Garri, Cocoa, emphasised that the state should harness their agricultural prowess and earn money.
According to her, 21 century women farmers in the state should be accorded better farming, and processing conditions as the current methods being applied by the women poses great health risk.
She specifically advocated mechanisation support by acquiring locally fabricated machines for processing palm oil, garri among others in order to boost the quality of produce for better export opportunities.
Svensson assured that the partnership with NWAPDI would benefit women in the state, as they are enthusiastic and determined to farm, and all they need is the right support.
“Partnership with us will not only be for women because our youth wing is both gender,”she said.
Mrs Adenike Adeleke, Commissioner for Federal Affairs who received the delegation on behalf of Osun government, said that their proposals would be given the needed attention.
Adeleke assured that she would push for the partnership to be a reality as it has to do with the betterment of women farmers in the state.
According to her, the state holds anything that has to do with women in high regard.(NAN)
