Herdsmen, Imo community in deadly clash

Violent clashes between herdsmen and natives around the country reoccurred on Monday when natives of Owaelu in Orji, Owerri north local government area of Imo State fled for safety when members of the local vigilante in the community and herdsmen went to war.

Though no casualty was recorded, an eyewitness said the incident, which occurred around 9: 30 pm, witnessed a gun duel between both parties.

Quick News Africa learnt that some of the villagers fled to take refuge in neighbouring communities, while the vigilantes overwhelmed the herdsmen who later ran away.

According to sources, the herdsmen had been chased from a neighbouring community, Emii and had arrived Orji with plans of resettling.

National President of Igbo National Council (INC) Chilos Godsent, who confirmed the incident, said the herdsmen were subdued due to awareness created by INC which introduced the “Operation Lion Walk” in the community.
