Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi lauded the Federal Fire Service on Tuesday for saving the lives and property of fire outbreak victims in the state.
Idris gave the commendation while receiving a new modern firefighting truck deployed to the state by the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Jaji, in Binrin Kebbi.
He said that he had witnessed the performances of the federal fire service, particularly its rapid response to emergency situations, adding that it was worthy of commendation.
Idris thanked the controller-general for finding the state worthy of deploying additional fire trucks to complement the existing ones.
“In my term as governor, I have seen how you work professionally to counter the challenges of rising fire incidents in the state, in partnership with the Department of State Fire Service, which has been performing excellently,” he said.
Idris directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, to hold consultations with the state controller of the federal fire service and provide monthly financial support to the service to complement its running costs.
Presenting the vehicle to the governor, the state controller of the federal fire service, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, said that it was a modern brand that could maneuver in any terrain in the state.
“The fire truck has a capacity of 600 litres of water, 50 litres of form compound, and two extinguishers that can break into any house on fire,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor officially inaugurated the vehicle, test-drove it, and made a symbolic demonstration with the water hose extinguishing fire. (NAN)
