As of midnight on Sunday, no results from the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) had arrived at the State Collation Centre in Lagos State, 24 hours after the opening of polls in Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections. This was disclosed by Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), during the official opening of the centre for final collation of election results.

Oladiji noted that the centre was still awaiting results from all the 20 LGAs and suggested that the centre reconvenes on Sunday at 10 am to process the results. He added that the collation was a serious national assignment that required adherence to well laid-out procedures of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, who commended the state collation officer, stated that collation was at various stages in the state. He also assured Nigerians that their votes would count at the end of the exercise, despite a few hitches.

The State Collation Centre for the 2023 Presidential Election in Lagos State is situated at the INEC Media Centre at the commission’s headquarters in the state. Collation of results was still ongoing at various stages, including the registration areas, federal constituency, senatorial district, and local government collation centres.

Journalists, observers, and other stakeholders awaited the commencement of the collation on Sunday. Some security agents were also sighted at the centre. The Presidential and National Assembly elections were held simultaneously across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday.
