The Nigerian Army has commenced a six-day Operations Planning Cadre for personnel and other security agencies to strengthen tactical leadership and enhance inter-agency collaboration in tackling the country’s evolving security challenges.

The Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Maj.-Gen. Olurotimi Awolo, disclosed this on Monday in Doma, Nasarawa State, at the opening of the 2026 Operations Planning Cadre scheduled to hold from June 21 to June 26.

Awolo said the training, with the theme: “Tactical Leadership Capacity Building and Multi-Agency Approach to Asymmetric Operations in Joint Operations Area,” was designed to improve operational planning and execution among security personnel.

He said that the training was timely in view of the diverse security threats confronting the country, including insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and militancy.

According to him, the various security challenges require specialized operational knowledge and coordinated responses by the armed forces and other security agencies.

“The topics selected for this cadre are carefully designed to equip personnel operating within the 4 Special Forces Command Area of Responsibility with the knowledge required to effectively address the peculiar security challenges in the area,” he said.

Awolo explained that participants were drawn from formations and units of the armed forces as well as other security agencies within the command’s area of responsibility to promote synergy in addressing security threats.

He said that the inclusion of other security agencies underscored the need for an integrated approach to national security operations.

The commander added that the training aligned with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of operating effectively in joint and multi-agency environments.

He urged participants to actively engage in the lectures, syndicate discussions and interactive sessions to maximize the benefits of the programme.

Awolo noted that presentations on inter-agency collaboration, contemporary security challenges and logistics planning in military operations other than war would be particularly beneficial to young officers preparing for deployment to operational theatres.

He also encouraged participants from the various security organizations to make objective contributions during discussions and share operational experiences that would enrich the training.

The commander expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for approving and supporting the training programme.

He also thanked the resource persons, senior military officers and invited guests for contributing their expertise toward the success of the cadre.

Awolo thereafter declared the 2026 4 Special Forces Command Operations Planning Cadre open. (NAN)
