Dr Aisha Mohammed, Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, on Monday distributed 100 bags of fertilizer to women groups ahead of 2021 irrigation farming activities in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 20 women farmer groups benefited from the distribution.
Mohammed said that the gesture was to complement government efforts on food security in the state.
She encouraged women to invest in farming activities to ensure economic development in the state.
She advised women farmers to diversify activities from food and cash crop farming.
Mohammed said that plans were in the pipeline to train and support women in sesame farming.
“We support women through associations and groups for collective gains. Soon we will support women to practice sesame farming in the state,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Hajiya Habiba Ajiya, representative of Women Farmers Association in Bauchi, appreciated the gesture by the governor’s wife.
She said that the fertilizer would support farmers in the state to boost productivities. (NAN)
