A Non Governmental Organisation, Helpline Social Support Initiative, has urged stakeholders to empower and nurture the potential of Nigerian youths to enable them drive sustainable development initiatives.
The NGO’s Communication Officer, Ms Cecilia Kadir, in a statement to commemorate the 2024 International Youth Day, in Abuja on Monday, described youths as catalysts for positive change.
Kadiri said that this year’s theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”, highlights the pivotal role technology plays in empowering youths to pilot strategic developmental initiatives in communities.
She reaffirmed the NGO’s commitment to amplifying the voices of young people in communities, through youth empowerment and innovation programmes.
“At Helpline Social Support Initiative, we recognise the creativity, resilience, and innovative spirit that young people bring to the forefront of social progress.
“They are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the change-makers of today, driving progress and inspiring us all to build a brighter future together.
“Through their dedication to social causes, advocacy for equality and justice, and commitment to environmental sustainability, young individuals are shaping a more inclusive and sustainable world for all.
“We commend their efforts in leveraging digital tools and pathways to address pressing issues, foster dialogue, and drive meaningful impact.
“Together, we can create a more just, equitable, and sustainable society for generations to come,” the communication officer said.
Kadiri added that the NGO would host a webinar entitled, “Empowering Youth to Drive Sustainable Change through Digital Innovation”, on August 14, as part of activities to commemorate e 2024 IYD.
She explained that the webinar would explore innovative digital strategies that would support sustainable development and empower the next generation of leaders. (NAN)
