Dutse, Aug. 21, 2025 (NAN) The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with Malam Madori Local Government Council, distributed relief items to 500 flood victims in the area.
The Information Officer in charge of the council, Alhaji Musa Muhammad, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Dutse on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a downpour that lasted several hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning destroyed more than 70 houses and damaged many others.
Parts of the area were also flooded, namely: Shagari Quarters, Tonikutara, Gandun Sarki and Gandun Bundugoma.
Muhammad stated that the relief items were distributed to affected households to alleviate their immediate hardship.
He quoted the Chairman of the council, Mr Salisu Sani, as saying that the items were to ease the suffering of the victims and listed items distributed as 10kg bags of rice, semovita, millet
and wheat, including N5,000 cash to each victim to transport the items home.
According to him, the chairman urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items effectively.
On his part, SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Hannafi Yakubu, who sympathised with the victims on behalf of the governor, assured them of his administration’s continued support to them.
Yakubu pledged to secure additional relief items from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
In their separate remarks, the District Heads of Malam Madori and Waje, Muhammad Saleh and Alhaji Ilyasu Ibrahim, commended the government’s timely assistance to the victims. (NAN)
