Motorists pedestrians  in parts of Kaduna metropolis have commended the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA), for  suspending traffic law enforcement activities from 8a.m to 10am daily.

Authorities of the Agency  had issued a statement directing all Zonal Commanders to suspend operational/enforcement activities between those hours of the day.

A statement signed by its Head of Operations, Aliyu Manga, had directed all zones to instead, render social services and control traffic during the stipulated period, to ensure free flow of traffic.

It said the measure would enable road users reach their places of work or business in good time, as well as transport their wards to school without any delay.

Mr. Innocent Bala, a civil servant, said the initiative was a welcome idea as it would allow for decongestion of traffic, especially in the early hours of the day.

“Week days, especially the early hours, used to be a nightmare due to traffic law enforcement activities, but with the recent development, I was able to report to office in good time,” Bala said.

Mrs. Lami Ayuba, a teacher also  applauded the move, saying that prior to this measure,  she used to leave her house as early as 6a.m, to avoid traffic gridlock,.

“But of recent, I leave my house around 7a.m and still get to work in less than 30 minutes,” she said.

Mr. Aliyu Yinusa, a commercial tricycle operator, said that before now,  most tricycle operators used to avoid certain routes in the morning, for fear of traffic law enforcement agents,  but that they now operated freely.

David Ameh, a commercial bus operator,  observed that since the directive was issued,  traffic gridlock had eased, especially along Ahmadu Bello Way.

“I have observed that KASTLEA and other security agents are more concerned about traffic flow, especially in the morning, and this has reduced the usual morning traffic jam,” Ameh said.

Mr. Abdulkadir Mohammed, a business man, said the usual traffic congestion experienced along major highways, had reduced.

“The traffic gridlocks sometimes used to be due to arrests made in the middle of the road, while others were caused by motorists trying to evade arrest.

“I urge the authorities concerned to consider extension of the no-enforcement period to at least 12 noon to further ease traffic flow within the metropolis,” he suggested. (NAN)
