
The Kebbi State Government on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi urged members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to be professional in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Secretary to the Kebbi State Government (SSG), Alhaji Babale Umar-Yauri, gave the charge when the newly elected members of Kebbi State Council of NUJ paid him a courtesy visit.
The state government enjoined journalists to ensure balanced reporting and solicited increased reportage of its activities in a fair and unbiased manner.
“We commend the members of NUJ for their continued and unrelenting reportage of government policies and programmes in the state. We charge you to do more as the fourth estate of the realm.
“The aim of your existence, among others, is to set the agenda for government to adopt and let the people know the activities of their government.
” Through you the government also hears want the people want to us to prioritize. We have a lot of government projects, policies and programmes that are yearning for publicity.”
Umar-Yauri said that the visit was important as it would cement the existing relationship between the union and the government.
Earlier, the state chairman of NUJ, Alhaji Hamza Galadima-Zuru, said the union has was enjoying a harmonious working relationship with the government.
He assured the SSG of the union’s continuous publicity to projects and programmes of the government in accordance with the ethics of the profession.
