Lokoja, March 9, 2026 (NAN) The Kogi Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (Kogi-AGILE) has intensified efforts to expand education access for out-of-school girls and vulnerable learners across the state.

The project, in partnership with the Participation Initiative for Behavioral Change in Development (PIBCID), monitored Mass Literacy Centers across the 21 local government areas of Kogi

Speaking in Lokoja on Monday, State Project Coordinator, Alh. Ahmed Oricha, said continuous monitoring and data-driven supervision remain critical to the programme’s success.

According to him, the exercise under Subcomponent 2.2c aims to provide functional literacy, vocational skills and empowerment for girls unable to access formal education.

“Standardized learners’ registers were distributed to facilitators to strengthen documentation, accountability and tracking of learner participation across the literacy centers.

“The monitoring exercise demonstrates our commitment to quality implementation of alternative learning programmes for vulnerable girls in communities across the state,” he said.

Hajia Mariam Bello, Subcomponent Lead for Alternative Education, said the exercise assessed implementation levels and identified operational gaps within the Mass Literacy Centers.

“The introduction of standardized registers will help facilitators maintain accurate records of learners’ biodata, attendance and learning progress.

“This will significantly improve programme tracking, monitoring and overall accountability in the alternative education initiative,” Bello said.

Rachel Akande, Executive Director of PIBCID, commended facilitators’ commitment and the enthusiasm shown by learners during the monitoring exercise.

“PIBCID will continue working closely with the Kogi AGILE Project to support effective implementation of the programme.

“We will ensure vulnerable girls in rural and underserved communities benefit fully from the initiative,” Akande said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that monitoring teams observed increased enrolment of adolescent girls and strong community support for the literacy programme.

However, challenges identified include inadequate learning materials, irregular attendance by some learners and limited infrastructure at several centers.

The teams recommended sustained supervision, provision of additional learning materials and continuous capacity building for facilitators.

The Kogi AGILE Project is expected to further expand educational opportunities and empower thousands of adolescent girls and vulnerable learners across the state. (NAN)
