Ilorin, Feb. 10, 2026(NAN) The wife of the Kwara Governor, Olufolake AbdulRazaq, has urged caregivers to guide and protect children with special needs, noting that they are susceptible to abuse.

AbdulRazaq, who is also the Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF), made the call at the distribution of sandals and reflective jackets to students of the School for Special Needs on Tuesday in Ilorin.

She said the intervention was intended to ease the burden on parents and guardians in providing basic school needs for their children.

The wife of the governor noted that educating children with special needs requires recognising their individual differences and providing targeted interventions to help them attain self-sufficiency and success both in school and within their communities.

She described the students as special and unique, commending their teachers for recognising and nurturing their individuality.

“While these items represent more than comfort, they embody the state we are building together, a state where every child, regardless of their background, can stride confidently into the classroom, ready to learn, to dream, and to excel.

“Due to the challenges some of these students face, I implore the school management to guide and monitor them well, as they are susceptible to all manners of abuse.

“But rest assured that we have no tolerance for any form of abuse in the state,” she said.

The wife of the governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to repositioning the school for excellence.

She said that the state government would leave no stone unturned to ensure its proper development.

“Let me assure you that the administration of Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that this institution is repositioned for sterling performance.

“This is evident in the recent provision of a school bus, the construction and upgrade of classrooms, a health centre, and the presentation of instructional materials to the school by the state government,” she said.

AbdulRazaq called on well-meaning individuals and organisations to support the students and complement government efforts.

She urged the students to maintain good conduct, respect authority, and take advantage of available opportunities, stressing that they were destined for greatness.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Dr NnaFatimah Imam, commended AbdulRazaq and her foundation for the intervention.

Imam said the intervention had restored dignity, hope and confidence to women, children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

She urged the students to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams, assuring them of sustained support for their success.

The Kwara Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Mufutau Irekeola, said the corps was committed to community outreach and environmental safety, with particular attention to vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities.

The Principal of the school, Hajia Rasheedat Jibril, expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the items distributed would improve the students’ safety and help preserve their dignity.

Jibril said the gesture would empower the students, boost their confidence and enable them to grow into individuals who could contribute meaningfully to society.

The Head Boy of the school, Yusuf Asimiu, who spoke on behalf of other students, appreciated the governor’s wife for putting smiles on their faces.(NAN)
