The Police, on Tuesday, arraigned a 32-year-old labourer, Emmanuel Ambassador, before a Jimeta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Yola, for allegedly stealing household items worth N82,000.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ambassador Yola, of Jimeta car wash, was charged with theft.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Emmanuel Paul, told the court that the complainant, Mr Ignatius Chukwudi, of Jimeta Hospital road, Yola, reported the matter at Jimeta police station on Feb. 16, at about 1:30 p.m.
Paul said that on the said date, at about 8:00 p.m., the complainant was parking his household property at another location and decided to seek the assistance of the defendant.
He said that while the items were being loaded into the vehicle, the ambassador criminally hid some of them and cratered away with them without the consent of the complainant.
The prosecutor listed the stolen items as including one jerrycan of turkey oil, one ceiling fan, and two pairs of shoes, all valued at N82,000.
He said that during the police investigation, the defendant denied the allegations.
The offence, according to him, contravenes Section 276 of the Penal Code, Law of Adamawa State, 2018.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Adamu, however, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
Adamu said that the surety must be reliable and reside within the court’s jurisdiction with a valid means of identification.
He, thereafter, adjourned the matter till Feb. 28 for hearing. (NAN)
