LAGOS, Jan 27 – A Lagos State High Court has ordered the arrest of Bolaji Agbede, Acting Managing Director of Access Bank, along with three other defendants, over allegations of conspiracy, fraud, and theft involving property worth ₦1.356 billion belonging to MOB Integrated Services.
The court, presided over by Justice Ibironke Harrison, issued the warrant following a suit filed against Agbede, Balmoral International Limited, DDSS International Company Limited, and Adejare Adegbenro. The defendants are accused of using property owned by MOB Integrated Services as collateral for a loan without the owner’s consent, in violation of Nigerian laws.
The charge sheet, signed by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, alleges that the defendants conspired to commit a felony contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The offence is said to have occurred on September 2, 2013.
One of the charges reads: “Adejare Adegbenro (m), Balmoral International Limited, Access Bank, and Bolaji Agbede (m), on or about the 2nd day of September, 2013, at Plot 1261, Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, conspired to commit a felony to wit; stealing.”
Another charge alleges that the defendants, on the same date and location, stole property belonging to MOB Integrated Services at Plot 40b, Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, by unlawfully using it as security for a loan. Additionally, the charge sheet accuses the defendants of entering into a consent judgement related to the property without the owner’s agreement.
In a separate count, the defendants are alleged to have attempted, on May 26, 2019, to steal the same property by offering and granting DDSS International Company Limited a ₦1 billion credit facility, using the contested property as collateral.
Following the defendants’ failure to appear in court, Justice Harrison issued a bench warrant for their arrest and adjourned the case until February 24, 2025, for further hearing.
