Lagos, Jan. 16, 2026 (NAN) Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged the state government’s support for the development of a world-class convention centre in partnership with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

He gave the pledge on Friday in Lagos while receiving the LCCI leadership, led by newly elected President, Mr Leye Kupoluyi, on a courtesy visit.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said the initiative aligned with the state government’s agenda.

According to him, the initiative aligns with the THEMES+ development agenda, promoting economic growth, job creation, tourism, and global competitiveness.

“The Lagos state government will work with you, particularly in building a world-class convention centre that will serve as a hub for business, trade exhibitions, conferences, and international events.

“This effort will further strengthen Lagos’ position as Africa’s leading commercial and investment destination.”

He charged LCCI to collaborate with relevant ministries, particularly the Ministry of Commerce, to ensure effective project execution.

The governor highlighted the state government’s initiatives in agriculture, including a five-year plan and a 15-year development plan for the sector.

He invited LCCI to contribute its expertise to the ongoing efforts.

Earlier in his remarks, Kupoluyi commended the government for its unwavering support and creation of an enabling environment for the chamber to thrive in the state.

The LCCI President emphasised the importance of collaboration in positioning Lagos not only as a hub for West Africa, but also for the African continent.

He emphasised that the convention centre, to be located along the Lekki-Epe expressway near Alaro City, would strengthen Lagos position as Africa’s leading commercial and investment destination.

According to him, the engagement is not merely to renew the Hope Agenda, but to reaffirm the need for continuous change in leadership and governance, regardless of past successes or shortcomings.

Kupoluyi further disclosed that the chamber would partner with the state Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen the food system.

He observed that Lagos consumed a significant volume of agricultural products, underscoring the need for the state to increase local production within its hinterland to meet growing demand. (NAN)
