The Lagos State Government reiterated on Monday its commitment to foster partnerships with the United States of America in order to engender more mutually beneficial opportunities.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this when the United States Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Will Stevens, paid him a courtesy visit at the Lagos House Marina.
”I’d like to appreciate the US Consulate for our mutually beneficial relationship that has continually promoted the interests of both parties.
“We need to consolidate our partnership with each other. There’s a lot to be done, and we as the government are ready to work together cohesively.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to inaugurate the US Consulate building soon. We appreciate your belief in the Center of Excellence,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Earlier, Stevens said that the essence of the visit was to build on the existing relationship between the United States and Lagos State.
“We’ve seen a huge influx of US top officials visit Lagos in the last few months, including the Secretary of State and other top government officials, just to come and see opportunities for future collaboration.
“Also, to see what’s happening in Lagos and the impact Lagos State is having on creative technology, natural resources, and Nigeria’s greatest resources, its people.”
He said that the American Corner in Lekki was opened recently, and an agreement was also signed with the University of Lagos to open an American space.
The consul general said this would allow the people of Lagos to have access to education and training opportunities. (NAN)
