The Lagos State Government has urged property owners and developers to utilise its free planning information service to avoid going contrary to regulations.

The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, gave the advice in a statement issued by the agency’s Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mr Mukaila Sanusi, on Monday at Alausa, Ikeja.

He said that rapid urbanisation and population growth in Lagos had led to housing shortages and  violations of planning regulations,  as developers tried to exploit loopholes.

The commissioner said that the  trend of planning proposal rejections by Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) were  frequently attributed to unsuitable land use proposals and non-compliance with planning regulations.

He emphasised the importance of utilising the information service.

Olumide emphasised that the state government, in line with its vision of making Lagos a 21st-century economy as indicated in its T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda, had invested heavily in Operative Development Plans.

This plan, he said, would designate the appropriate landsuses and different approval orders for various areas in the state to bring about organised, orderly, and sustainable development.

He said: “In tandem with the above, the government has also established the planning information service, obtainable free of charge either at the ministry or LASPPPA.

“All a developer needs to do is to write and request for the service, which will aid the decision to purchase land.”

He added that planning information would remove doubt and assist property owners and developers to act with knowledge and confidence.

Olumide said that the service would adequately spell out the planning details of the land in question, such as its status, permissible uses, and approvable heights, among others.

He used all Lagosians to abide by planning regulations and support the development agenda of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in the state for the wellness and wellbeing of all. (NAN)
