Land Agent, 43, docked over alleged N10m land fraud

Ibadan, Aug.19, 2025(NAN) A Land Agent, Ismail Owolabi, 43, was arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding a land buyer of N10 million.

The defendant with no fix address is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing which the defendant pleaded not guilty to.

The Police prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye told the court that the defendant and others at large allegedly conspired together to commit the act sometime in July 2022.

Akinloye alleged that Owolabi fraudulently obtained N10 million from one Moshood Opaleye on the pretence of selling 10 acres of land to him at Oloka village, Ido, Oyo State.

He alleged that the defendant stole the money from the complainant after converted the money to his own use.

Akinloye stated that the offence was committed in July 2022, at Adeoyo area, Ring Road, Ibadan area.

He said that the offence is contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum offraud N2.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties must have a landed property with survey, while the second sureties must be blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the matter until Nov. 27, for hearing. (NAN)
