Lagos State University (LASU) on Friday matriculated 1,500 students into its 2023–2024 sandwich degree programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, stated this during the matriculation ceremony in Ojo, Lagos.
Olatunji-Bello, who was represented by Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), said that the Sandwich Program had a special significance.
“It is significant in that it provides an opportunity for working professionals, especially those in the educational sector, and other individuals with other commitments to pursue further education and enhance their skills.
“Your admission today is a testament to our institution’s dedication to accessibility and inclusivity in education.
“Over the last few years, we have provided access to quality education for working professionals through the Sandwich Degree Program here on our main campus, Epe campus, and other affiliated institutions.
“For us, regardless of the academic programme offered, quality education is always the watchword,” she said.
Olatunji-Bello implored the students to be vigilant and security-conscious at all times and report any suspicious activity to the university authorities for an appropriate response.
“We have digitalized the admissions process and student records, allowing our students to register for their courses and also access their results promptly online.
“Our digitalization process has also rubbed off positively on our certificate processing, cutting the processing time and eradicating delays in the issuance of certificates.
“These, in addition to the quality of our lecturers and organisation, mean that we have arguably the best sandwich degree program in Nigeria today,” the vice chancellor said.
Prof. John Adeogun, Director, Sandwich Degree Programme, charged the matriculating students to make the most of the rare opportunity and ensure class attendance above 70 percent while focusing on seeking the university’s degree.
Adeogun said that university management would ensure the welfare, security, and improvement of learning facilities for all students.
“I hope that you will avail yourselves of the opportunity to excel and become worthy ambassadors of the university.
“The cardinal objective of today’s exercise is to acquaint you with the fundamental principles, norms, and culture of our university.
“This university will not condone indecent dressing, among other social vices and unethical behaviours,” he said.(NAN)
