The Delta House of Assembly on Wednesday, passed the state 2023 Appropriation Bill of N571.6 billion.

Deputy Speaker, Delta House of Assembly, Christopher Ochor,  has commanded Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the commencement of academic activities at the state’s Skills Acquisition and Vocational Centre, Umutu.

Ochor, gave the commendation when members of the State Technical and Vocational Education Board, led by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Smart Ikem. visited him on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said it was a thing of joy that the centre which had long been completed and equipped would begin academic activities following the governor’s approval.

Ochor said that this would boost the socio-economic activities at Mutu in Ukwuani Local Government Area (LGA) and surrounding villages.

He said the interest of Okowa in the centre long before he became governor was responsible for the attention given to it.

“I am glad that after much waiting, the centre had been approved as one of the 14 centres in the state to commence academic activities in April.

“I must thank the governor for his approval. This is another proof of his determination for skills acquisition by youths in Delta,’’ he said.

The deputy speaker promised the board the needed assistance for the centre to achieve its mandate.

Earlier, the executive secretary appealed to the people of the state, especially Ukwuani LGA to sponsor youths to acquire knowledge.

According to him, the Umutu vocational centre will commence academic activities with courses such as Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Engineering, Hair Dressing, Computer Science, Fashion design and Carpentry.(NAN)
