Bauchi, Sept. 18, 2025 (NAN) Malam Sani Mu’azu, a lecturer at College of Agriculture, Bauchi, has urged youths to channel their energy and potential into productive ventures, particularly in agriculture, to drive sustainable economic growth.
Mu’azu, also a registered Animal Scientist made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bauchi.
According to him, Bauchi’s youthful population represents an enormous resource that, if properly guided and harnessed can transform the agricultural sector and other areas of the economy.
The lecturer described agriculture as a sector where young people could thrive, provided they adopt professional and modern approaches rather than relying solely on traditional subsistence farming practices.
“Professionalism in agriculture is critical to increasing productivity, improving food security, and boosting income.
“Technology plays a vital role in shaping the future of agriculture and education,” Mu’azu stated.
He encouraged the youths to embrace digital tools, including mobile applications and artificial intelligence (AI), to overcome the challenges posed by the shortage of agricultural extension workers.
“Technology offers practical solutions to the gaps we face in extension services. Through the use of apps and AI-driven platforms, young farmers can access vital information, make informed decisions, and improve their farming techniques,” he revealed.
The lecturer further noted that integrating technology into agriculture would not only enhance efficiency but also make the sector more attractive to young people, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
He urged policymakers, institutions, and stakeholders to create an enabling environment, especially for the youths, through access to funding, training, and mentorship, to support youths venturing into agribusiness.
Mu’azu observed that empowering young people with skills, technology, and knowledge would be instrumental in achieving food security, reducing unemployment, and driving economic development in the state and beyond. (NAN)
