THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed fears that Liberia’s level of preparation for the final qualifying round of the South Africa 2013 African Cup of Nations against Nigeria would  give the Lone Stars an edge over the Super Eagles.

The Lone Stars are currently on a playing tour of the United States of America in preparation for the first leg of the qualifier, which is slated for early September.

But the NFF Secretary General, Musa Amadu, said yesterday in Abuja that the federation was leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the Eagles beat Liberia over two legs to pick the AFCON ticket.

Confirming that the Super Eagles will reconvene in the second week of August with the home-based players, Amadu noted that the involvement of majority of the home-based players in the ongoing Federation Cup and the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) was a boost to their form ahead the AFCON games.

“Yes we have heard that the Liberians are preparing to tour the United States of America as part of their preparations for the match in September. But the truth is that it doesn’t bother us, there is no cause for alarm.

“You know our team is predominantly home-based and we cannot also say that they are not preparing, since the majority of the players are playing for their various clubs at the ongoing Federation Cup, as well as the Nigerian Premier League, which is also in progress. So they are all in shape. But as soon as all these things are through, we will definitely call the players to camp by the second week of August, beginning with the home based players before they will be joined by their foreign-based counterparts by the end of August. We are also trying to see if we can play a friendly game before then,” he said.

Nigeria will play Liberia in Monrovia in the first leg of the final round of the qualifier on September 8, while the return leg is scheduled after two weeks in Calabar.
