Kaduna, Nov. 3, 2025 (NAN) In a major political shift, the Labour Party (LP) in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas of Kaduna State has collapsed its structures into the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
The defection, which took place in Chikun Local Government Area, involved several LP executives from ward to local government levels who resigned their membership to formally join the YPP.
Receiving the defectors, the National Organising Secretary of YPP, Mr Williams Moses, alongside the State Chairman, Mr Mikailu Abubakar, described the development as a significant step towards building a credible political alternative in Kaduna State.
Moses said the decision of the former LP members was motivated by their commitment to better serve their communities through a platform that promotes accountability, unity, and people-oriented governance.
He urged.the residents of the state to see the YPP as a credible vehicle for change and national renewal.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the former LP Chairman in Chikun, Mr Yerima Ahmed, said their defection was voluntary and based on shared values rather than internal crisis.
He said: “Chikun is the centre of politics in Kaduna State.
“Our move to YPP represents a new beginning for both the old and the young.
“We believe in a party that upholds equity, unity, and progress.”
Ahmed added that the YPP’s ideology aligned with their vision for a more inclusive and accountable political future for Kaduna State and Nigeria.(NAN)
